What to Know Before Contracting with a Freelancer

Hiring a freelancer can be scary because there are so many individuals to choose from. Don't let fear hold you back from possibly one of the best business partnerships you will create. Here are some tips to keep you on track when deciding whom to contract with.

Skills:

Select a few required skills that will help you limit your search based on these qualifications. Do you need someone who's a wiz at web design, how about a social media expert, or perhaps someone with experience as an administrative assistant.

Budget:

Next, consider your budget. How much are you willing to spend on the project, if you are looking for ongoing, monthly support consider looking at the last 12 months of your income and basing your monthly budget on what you made during your worst month in the last year.

Many freelancers offer hourly, retainer, and project-based packages with varying deliverables to help accommodate a variety of budget price points.

Type of person:

How do I know if they are a good fit for me? Think about what your core values are within your business. Think about the type of personality that would make a good fit for the project you’re hiring them for. What previous experiences and values will make them a good fit for your company culture? Knowing the answer to these questions can help you make faster decisions once you begin your search.
