Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation is a unique facility in Pennsylvania that specializes in the rehabilitation of squirrels and cottontail rabbits, two of the most common species in need of rehabilitation.

Betsy Shank: Saving Wildlife through "Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation"

Betsy Shank's journey towards entrepreneurship took a unique and inspiring path. One warm spring day in April 2010, Betsy discovered her calling when she rescued her first baby squirrel. He was successfully raised and released. Her fast-paced life in corporate America came to a screeching halt about a year later when five baby squirrels were given to her to raise.

This experience led her to delve into wildlife rehabilitation, and her passion for it only grew over time. She started her own business, "Auntie MM's Custom Boutique," which focused on creating sturdy bedding for small, caged animals.

In between projects, she studied wildlife rehabilitation with the goal of becoming permitted. She trained under several rehabilitators in many states before becoming permitted in Pennsylvania, then went on to earn her Certified Wildlife Rehabilitator (CWR) designation by the IWRC. Betsy went on to found her non-profit organization, "Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation." This non-profit organization specializes in rehabilitating squirrels, cottontails, and woodchucks while educating the public about these animals. Her services are extended to anyone in the state of Pennsylvania, with a primary focus on Lancaster, Lebanon, York, Dauphin, and Chester counties. "Acorn Acres Wildlife Rehabilitation" is a unique facility in Pennsylvania that specializes in the rehabilitation of squirrels and cottontail rabbits, two of the most common species in need of rehabilitation.

Betsy's dedication to her cause is evident in her role on the Board of Directors for Wildlife in Need Emergency Response of Pennsylvania (WIN) and as the 2023 Pennsylvania Wildlife Rehabilitation Conference Planning Committee Co-Chair.

Betsy resides in Millersville, PA, with her husband and their domestic rabbit named Latte. For more information on Betsy Shank's incredible work, please visit www.acornacreswr.com.
